Excellent antique Victorian cameo. Hand carved; a very fine high relief of a Greek goddess. We estimate this cameo as being circa 1870. 

This cameo is carved in exquisite detail using 3 layers of shell, the top orange layer of the shell is used by the artisan to highlight the Goddess’s hair, cap and gown. 

The mount is hand wrought in gold that tests at 15k. The cameo’s original pin and c clasp are both in perfect working order and, adding to the cameo’s appeal, is the original safety chain and pin which was used to secure the cameo to heavier Victorian clothing. 

The cameo is large, measuring approximately 2 1/8” x 1 3/4”. 

A beautiful, wearable, heirloom-worthy work of art.
